ROSAT HRI observations of the filamentary wind blown bubble NGC 6888.
Abstract
The authors obtained ROSAT HRI observations of the filamentary wind blown interstellar bubble NGC 6888 with a total exposure time of 122467 s. When smoothing the angular resolution to 25″FWHM to enhance the signal to noise ratio it was possible to identify 30 X-ray emitting clumps along the periphery of the optically visible shell. Roughly half of the clumps are still unresolved along their minor axes, and are thus smaller than ≡0.2 pc. Modeling the X-ray flux and surface brightness of evaporating clumps, it seems possible that the observed X-ray emission originates from the line of sight superposition of small (0.05 pc = 6″ evaporating cloudlets.
